The High Court has rejected the bail petition of Fakhrul Islam, a counsel of BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, in the case of leaking the verdict of the war criminal.
The bench of Justice, Md Rezaul Haque and Justice, Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the judgement after rejecting Fakhrul's petition, Attorney General, Mahbubey Alam told the Dhaka Tribune.
Mahbubey Alam said: “Fakhrul tried to tarnish the image of the judiciary by writing the judgement from elsewhere. It is tantamount to murdering the judiciary like murdering a man. The lawyers’ copy of verdict was not similar to the International Crimes Tribunal.”
He argued that if Fakhrul was granted bail, it could not be said with certainty that the lawyer’s freedom would not interrupt in the disposal of the war crimes appeal case of death row convict, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
On October 1 last year, tribunal 1 handed down capital punishment to the opposition leader for his crimes against humanity.
