A local Jubo League activist yesterday allegedly assaulted a government official of Mohammadpur upazilla in Magura.
The victim, Anwar Hossen, assistant primary education officer of the upazila told the Dhaka Tribune that he came under attack by a local Jubo league activist named Ashraful Islam.
Witnesses said Ashraful Islam, the Jubo League activist and president of the managing committee of Raipasha Government Primary School in Mohammadpur upazila, came to Anwar’s office around 12pm.
Ashraf persuaded him to transfer Latifa Begum, the existing headmistress of the school, from the school and post one Shahidul Islam at her position.
But the officer disagreed with Ashraful’s proposition suspecting his ill motive behind the request. Being angry, Ashraful allegedly assaulted the official.
When contacted, Ashraful denied the allegation and said: “I did not go to his office.”
Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge Nikunza Kumar Kundu said they were looking into the matter.
