14-party: Bring culprits of Narayanganj, Feni to book

Expressing concern over the recent killings and abductions, Awami League-led 14-party alliance urged the government yesterday to bring the culprits of the Narayanganj and Feni cases to justice.

They also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to appoint an experienced politician at the Home Ministry to accelerate its activities.

The leaders of the 14-party came up with the suggestions during a meeting of the alliance at the Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi.

“It has become a tradition to search for elements of conspiracies in every incident. The government should uncover the facts of the Narayanganj and Feni killings by carrying out proper investigations,” said a party leader, quoting the Awami League Organising Secretary Bahauddin Nasim.

Nasim said though a vested quarter had been hatching conspiracies against the government, it was not logical to smell conspiracies after every incident.

Many of the participants of the meeting, including Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Awami League Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, supported Bahauddin Nasim’s views.

Sources said JP leader Sheikh Shahid expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. “An experienced politician should be given the responsibility of Home Affairs Ministry to maintain law and order,” he said.

Workers Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon who chaired the meeting urged the premier to take steps against the culprits of the Narayanganj and Feni cases to establish the rule of law in the country.

After the meeting, Awami League Presidium Member and 14-party spokesperson Mohammad Nasim told reporters at a briefing that the alliance will hold rallies in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions to project the success stories of the government.

Replying to a query about alleged involvement of two Awami League leaders in the Narayanganj and Feni incidents, he said criminals do not have any political identity.
