Tinted glass must be removed from vehicles by May 10

The home ministry has ordered the removal of tinted and translucent glassesfrom cars and microbuses after purchase,as criminals are believed to be using such vehicles to commit crimes.

The order was issued yesterday where the ministry said in a directive on April 30 that to better check for crimes they had ban the use of tinted glass that affect visibility.

“The ban was imposed as criminals are using the cover of obscuring visibility and committing crimes using these vehicles. The law enforcementagencies have been facinga lot of trouble followingthe movement of criminalsbecause they use tinted ortranslucent glass on their vehicles such as cars and microbuses. They cannot identify people and elements inside these vehicles,” said the order, signed by deputy secretary (political wing) Kamrul Hasan Raz.

The home ministry order also saidthe government had taken a decision to remove all coloured, mercury or silver-coated and translucent or semi-transparentglassthatwere installed after the vehicles were bought.

“Such glass must be removed from the vehicles by May 10. The law enforcement will take legal action against those who violate the government decision,” it said.

However, the order would not apply for authorised vehicles that were purchased with tinted or translucent glasses “builtin” during manufacturing. Import of such vehicles, usually used by VIPs, require permission from the authorities.

An order of the commerce ministry in 2006 had already restricted the import of vehicles with tinted and translucent glass.
