MP’s brother assaults CU teacher

Chittagong University Teachers’  Association (CUTA) formed a human chain on Wednesday  and brought out silent procession at Shahid Minar premises of the campus demanding exemplary punishment of the miscreants who physical assaulted a teacher of Fine Arts Institute of CU.

Kajol Debnath, an assistant professor of Fine Arts Institute of CU, was physically assaulted by Tanvir Sarwar Rana, the younger brother of Saimon Sarwar, ruling party lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar Sader constituency, at the campus premises in the city on April 10.

Professor Benu Kumar, president of CUTA presided over the rally while Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman, secretary of CUTA, among others, addressed the protest programmme.

The teachers demanded immediate arrest of the attackers and exemplary punishment for the persons responsible for the attack.

The teachers said if the demands were unmet they would wage tougher movement. They also announced to hold another human chain on April 18 at the Chittagong Press Club premises to realize their demands.

Professor Siraj Ud Dowla, CU proctor admitted about receiving a formal complaint of the teachers and the authority is dealing the matter with highest priority.
