A Dhaka court yesterday ordered to send Tazreen Fashions Chairman Mahmuda Akhter Mita to jail rejecting her bail petition in a case filed over the factory fire that killed more than 112 workers.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam passed the order when she sought bail after surrendering before the court.
Defence counsel Md Golam Gaus filed the fresh bail petition for Mahmuda. On April 2, the High Court rejected the bail pleas of Mahmuda and her husband, Tazreen Fashions Managing Director Delwar Hossain.
On March 20, the Dhaka’s District and Sessions Judge’s Court cancelled the bail granted to Mahmuda and ordered her to appear before the lower court within 15 days which ends today.
Mahmuda was granted conditional bail by Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain on February 10. The court then rejected the bail appeal of Delwar.
Police submitted charge sheet on December 22 last year against 13 people, including Delwar and Mahmuda, for the deaths of workers due to their negligence. Over 200 workers were also injured in the incident that took place on November 24, 2012.
