The Anti Corruption Commission yesterday asked a lawmaker from Dhaka-14 constituency and another former lawmaker to submit their wealth statements, within the next seven days, in connection with an inquiry into the accumulation of illegal wealth.
The commission has also asked for the wealth statements of their family members.
“The notices were issued against Aslamul Haque, an Awami League lawmaker from Dhaka-14 constituency, and Jatiya Party leader M Abdul Jabbar, also a former lawmaker from Satkhira 2 constituency, to trace the sources behind their phenomenal rise of their wealth and assets,” an official said.
The commission also served notices to Aslamul Haque’s wife Maksuda Haque and M Abdul Jabbar’s wife Firoza Begum, and his three sons Faruk Hossain, Sayeed Hossain, and Mahbub Hossain, asking them to submit their statements on all movable and immovable properties before the commission.
During primary inquiry, the ACC investigators have found that their wealth was inconsistent with their known sources of income, prompting officials to ask for the wealth statements of the two ruling alliance leaders.
On January, the commission launched an inquiry into the phenomenal rise in the wealth and assets of three former ministers, three members of parliament, and three former lawmakers from BNP, the Awami League and the Jatiya Party.
