Bail cancellation hearing of Tazreen MD’s wife on March 5

A Dhaka court yesterday set March 5 to hear a prosecution petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Mahmuda Akhter Mita, the chairman of Tazreen Fashions.

Acting judge of the Dhaka’s District and Session’s Court Hosne Ara Akhter set the new date after hearing both the sides.

On February 12, public prosecutor Khondoker Abdul Mannan filed the plea before the court. The state counsel mentioned in the petition that the accused had been absconding for a long time and that she was not obedient to the court.

The accused could threaten the victims’ families and the prosecution witness, the petition says.

On that day, the court also issued a showcase notice to the accused as to why her bail should not be cancelled.

On February 11, Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain rejected the bail petition of Tazreen Managing Director Delwar Hossain but gave his wife Mahmuda one month’s conditional bail.

Yesterday, the public prosecutor filed a time petition for hearing the prayer as the judge was on leave.

Defence counsel ATM Golam Gaus submitted the reply of the show cause notice mentioning that the court had granted her bail on specific grounds that she had two children and one of them was sick. So the bail was needed to take care of them.

He claimed that Mahmuda had not violated the bail conditions as she had already submitted her passport before the court.

A day after the deadly fire at Tazreen Fashions on November 24, 2012, police filed a case accusing 15 staff of the factory for murder by negligence.
