Militant Rakib’s body handed over

Police have handed over the body of recaptured death row JMB militant Rakib Hasan, who died in a “gunfight”, to his family members on Monday afternoon.

Mirzapur police station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostafa told the Dhaka Tribune: “The body was handed over to Rakib’s father Abdus Sobahan around 5.20pm.”

Rakib was recaptured on Sunday after he was snatched along with two JMB militants from a police prison van.

Miscreants snatched the three condemned JMB militants while they were being taken to Mymensingh from Kashimpur jail, Gazipur, after hurling bombs at the police van. A police constable died in the incident.

However, two remaining militants Salauddin Salehin and bomb specialist Mizan are still on the run nearly 24 hours after the attack.

The incident took place weeks after the issue of militancy surfaced anew in Bangladesh with the clip of “al-Qaeda” calling Muslims to wage Jihad against anti-Islamist forces.
