The High Court yesterday ordered the health secretary and the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to issue directives to the chiefs of all hospitals in the country for monitoring the surgical system.
The court also summoned the director and the registrar of Rajshahi Medical College to appear before the court on March 5 to explain on the allegation of conducting operation by the hospital’s ward boy.
It ordered the health secretary to form a committee in one week to probe the incident and give a compliance report within four weeks.
An HC bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order following a writ petition filed by Monjil Morshed, president of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh
The bench issued ruling seeking explanation why it should not direct for ensuring developed and safe treatment in all hospitals over the country.
Health secretary, DG and assistant secretary of the DGHS, president and secretary of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, director and registrar of the RMC were asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.
Manzill told the court that ward boys were conducting operations in different hospitals instead of the doctors.
Terming the matter as an alarming state of health sector, he sought the HC’s directive in this regard.
