HC orders monitoring of surgical system

The High Court has ordered the health secretary and the director general of the health department to issue directives to the chiefs of all hospitals in the country to monitor the surgical system and to ensure the conduct of operation by surgeons.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order following a writ petition filed by Monjil Morshed, president of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

In his petition, Manjil Morshed said it has been noticed that ward boys were conducting operations in different hospitals instead of the doctors.

Terming the matter as an alarming state of our health sector, he sought the HC’s directive in this regard.

After hearing the petition, the court also issued a ruling asking why the order of ensuring safe and modern treatment should not be issued.

It asked the government to submit an explanation within two weeks.
