The High Court has issued a rule seeking explanation to why it would not order the use of Bangla language throughout the country.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the rule on Monday asking the government to reply within two weeks.
The court also directed the use of Bangla in sign boards, nameplates and number plates for vehicles.
The rule was issued in response to a petition moved by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond in line with the Bengali Language Implementation Act, 1987.
The writ sought the enforcement of the act in all government institutions, semi-government institutions and court.
However, communication of the government and semi-government offices with the foreign missions are out of considerations of this ruling.
