SC upholds stay over recruitment of medical technologists

The Appellate Division on Sunday upheld the stay of the Health Department circular that would appoint 2,077 medical technologists.

The five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order after dismissing the appeal of the government because the time limit had passed.

On February 20, 2013, the High Court stayed the job circular of January 18, 2013 until it dealt with the writ petition challenging the circular.

Later, the chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed the HC order, hearing an appeal of the government. The full bench of the apex court yesterday vacated the order of the chamber judge, dismissing the appeal, Assistant Attorney General SK Shaifuzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune.

Supreme Court lawyer Shafique Ahmed, assisted by Hafizul Islam, represented the writ petitioners while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza argued for the government.

The Circular stated that only people with diploma degrees, obtained after three years of study at the government approved Institute of Health Technology, could apply for medical technologist posts.

Six institutions, including Aim Bangladesh Medical Institute, along with five students lodged the writ petition.
