A Dhaka court has ordered jail authorities to show justified cause for their failure to produce Oishee Rahman – who is alleged of killing her parents – before the court yesterday for a bail petition hearing.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Kabir Raj yesterday asked Dhaka Central Jail authorities to answer to the order.
The court also fixed January 19 for hearing on the bail plea and ordered authorities to produce Oishee before the court on that day.
Oishee, an O-level student of Oxford International School, is now in prison for her complicity in the killing of her parents – Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman.
Defense lawyer Prokash Ranjan Biswas said the bail hearing date was set on January 12, after he filed a petition before the court seeking bail for Oishee.
He also said another petition was filed regarding the provision of education materials for Oishee ahead of her O-Level examinations.
The bail hearing was supposed to take place yesterday in the presence of Oishee but the jail authorities did not produce Oishee.
Earlier on August 16 last year, the decomposed bodies of Oishee’s parents were recovered from their Chamelibagh residence in the city. The couple had lived in the rented house with their two children—Oishee and Oihee and their housemaid Sumi.
Twenty-two hours after the recovery of the bodies, Oishee showed up at the Paltan police station. Later on the same day, detective police arrested her friend Mizanur Rahman Rony and domestic aid Sumi.Oishee confessed to the killing after surrendering to the police, but later retracted her statement. The case stirred up a sensation throughout the country at the time.
On August 24, Oishee and Sumi gave confessional statements before a magistrate under section 164 in the case.
