In the wake of persistent violence during the opposition’s blockade programmes, Dhaka Metropolitan Police authorities yesterday announced another bounty on the criminals who damage vehicles and hurl bombs.
Persons assisting the police in DMP areas to arrest vandals and arson attackers would be awarded Tk1 lakh to Tk25,000 to help nab those who hurl hand bombs or petrol bombs, Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said.
The DMP authorities have requested people to contact them through phone, email or Facebook (932640, 01191001100, 01678024652, dmpmedia@dmp.gov.bd, www.facebook.com/dmp.dhaka).
As an experiment, the DMP on December 15 announced a Tk1 lakh bounty on each of the 11 individuals who were allegedly involved in the rampages and arson attacks on law enforcers in the capital’s Motijheel area two days ago.
Terming them “criminals, enemies of the nation and threats to the country,” the DMP authorities urged all to help the law enforcement agencies arrest the criminals by providing information.
The Jamaat-Shibir men conducted arson attacks and vandalised over 100 vehicles and shops in Motijheel and surrounding areas. They also exploded over 200 crude bombs.
