The Supreme Court yesterday gave war criminal Ghulam Azam 40 more days to lodge the concise statement of his plea against the state side’s appeal for his capital punishment and ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for their 1971 atrocities.
The five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order yesterday.
On October 8, the Appellate Division ordered the defence and the government to file the summaries of their appeals by November 5.
The government registered the concise statement the grounds and facts for argument of its appeal against the tribunal’s July 15 judgement sentencing the former Jamaat ameer to 90 years’ imprisonment, but the defence did not.
On August 5, Ghulam Azam appealed against the tribunal verdict, seeking acquittal. On August 12, the government filed an appeal for sentencing him to death and banning Jamaat as a political party.
