Death row war criminal Quader Molla is yet to make it clear to the jail officials whether he will seek the president’s clemency. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader has rather told the prison officials that he wanted to talk to his lawyers.
Jail officials also claimed that the death row prisoner was physically fit, had three meals and passed his time as usual yesterday.
Inspector General of Prisons Mainuddin Khandaker said they would now wait for his lawyers, who are scheduled to visit him today.
According to jail officials, a five-member team of lawyers was scheduled to visit the Dhaka Central Jail at 10am and discuss the next steps with Molla.
The IG-Prisons said: “It seems to me that Quader Molla is trying to hide his mental state as well as his desires.
“I have not noticed any significant changes in his physical or mental expressions,” he said.
However, a number of senior jail officials alleged that Molla was trying to buy time with excuses.
Rafiqul Islam, the senior most physician of the Prisons Department, said: “Until Monday night, there has not been anything abnormal with Molla’s physique.
“There is no need to bring any change in his food menu or for any other special arrangement for him”, said Dr Rafiqul.
