ACC to look into asset of LGED chief engineer

The Anti-Corruption Commission has decided to inquire the irregularity in wealth possessed by Local Government Engineering Department Chief Engineer Md Wahidur Rahman.

The decision came after allegations surfaced that the chief engineer acquired illegal wealth and was involved with money laundering, an ACC official said on Thursday.

The graft busting agency earlier in 2008 conducted an inquiry into the same allegation of illegal wealth accumulation and undisclosed income, but failed to find any irregularities.

The official with his wealth statement of 2008 said he worked with LGED from 1982. He spent Tk13.5m on a building construction and had Tk4.83m in different banks.

However, the commission earlier traced nothing faulty in his wealth statement, ACC sources said.

Recently, the commission decided to further inquire into the allegation that he had undisclosed income and been involved in money laundering.

The commission had already received photos that Wahidur Rahman, his son and daughter-in-law had property Australia including building, car etc, said an ACC source.
