Raise voice to save Aduris: DMP commissioner

“Many children like Aduri are mistreated by a section of people in our society. But, if we all come forward and raise our voices against such maltreatment, it can be possible to put an end to their sorrows and suffering,” said Benazir Ahmed, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday.

He was addressing a press briefing at the media and community centre of the DMP, as they handed over five rickshaws to the 11-year old, Aduri, who was rescued by an assistant sub-inspector from a dustbin in the city this September.

Aduri, after being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for almost two months, was released Saturday.

Mean while, at the programme, DMP commissioner also handed over a cheque for Tk76,000, which was given by Jahangir Hossain, brother of Additional Superintended of Police Fahima Akter.

Speaking at the occasion, Benazir Ahmed said they would help Aduri’s family to take the five rickshaws back to their hometown in Patuakhali, so they can live their lives by renting them out.

On the other hand, the presented money would be deposited in a bank, so that it can be used later for her education. Steps have already been taken to get her admitted in a school.

“Many people from home and abroad have contacted us to help Aduri. We will coordinate with them so that they can stand beside Aduri in future. We will also take necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such cases,” he said.

Maruf Hossain, additional commissioner, Jahangir Hossain Matubbor, deputy commissioner of DB west, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP were present at the occasion among others.
