State defence lawyers in the war crimes case against Chowdhury Mueen Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan said fugitive convicts could appeal against the tribunal verdict that sentenced them to death.
“The convicts can file appeal petitions against the verdict, but we will not be engaged with the process,” said state defence lawyer Salma Hye.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the verdict, she said: “We hoped that our client would be released from the charges in the case.”
The war crimes tribunal on Sunday sentenced the former al-Badr leaders to death for their alleged involvement with the killing of 18 intellectuals during December 11-15, 1971.
All 11 charges were proved against the convicts.
