Home minister orders middlemen-free police stations

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday instructed that all police stations across the country be made free of brokers and directed police personnel to serve the public with honesty, integrity, and sincerity.

He issued the directives during an unannounced visit to Ramna Model Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the afternoon.

According to a video of the visit released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the minister entered the office of the officer-in-charge (OC) and asked those present about their identities and reasons for being at the station.

He later inspected the duty officer’s room, lock-up, and other facilities.

The minister asked the OC about the lock-up’s capacity, environment, and use. He also checked the food provided to a detainee and inquired whether proper facilities, including washrooms and fans, were available.

He also inspected the accommodation mess for police personnel.

In the 10-minute, 29-second video, the minister told the OC that if anyone uses the name of BNP or any other political party to gain advantages at the police station, the responsibility would fall on the OC.

The home minister also warned that strict action would be taken against any police member if allegations of negligence or corruption are proven.
