The High Court Thursday upheld a lower court verdict that fined former BNP state minister for energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain Tk600,000 in a graft case.
The bench of Justice Abu Bakar Siddiqui, however, reduced the punishment of three-year jail term to one year which he had already served.
ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan and Mosharraf’s lawyer Mohammad Shah Alam said Mosharraf would have to serve six more months if he did not pay the fines.
The case was filed in 1991 for embezzling Tk564,449 when he served as a BCIC chairman and industries secretary from 1988 to 1990. He was sentenced the follwoing year, but he challenged the verdict.
