Nayan ‘confesses’ to SQC verdict leak

International Crimes Tribunal staff member Nayan Ali has admitted his involvement in the leaking of the draft verdict in the case against BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

Metropolitan Magistrate Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan recorded his statement on Thursday and ordered him jail, General Recording Officer of the court Sub-Inspector Mahmudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.

Nayan, a cleaner, and Md Faruque, stenographer of the tribunal registrar, have been on remand after their arrest on  on October 5. Another accused Mehedi Hasan, a junior to the convict’s lawyer Fakhrul Islam Chowdhury, is on the run.

Nayan said he accessed the tribunal 1 chairman’s computer and gave Mehedi data on a pen drive several times, said a source. He also claimed that Fakhrul and a manager of Salauddin Quader had been involved in the matter.
