Contempt charge filed against Khandker Mahabub

International Crimes Tribunal 1 fixed Sunday for delivering its order on a prosecution plea seeking contempt proceedings against Supreme Court lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain for his remarks on the tribunal.

Prosecutor Zead-Al-Malum filed the contempt application on Thursday, stating that the accused had termed the trial “biased, baseless, and utterly false and fabricated, ill-motivated and not made in good faith”.

Mahbub, an adviser to the BNP chairperson, is also the vice-president of Bangladesh Bar Council.

Shortly after the conviction of BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury on Tuesday, the lawyer told the media that “each and every person” involved in the trial process would be tried if BNP assumed power.

He said the BNP would hold trial of the “real war criminals.”
