The foreign ministry has contacted Indian authorities over the trafficking of a Bangladeshi girl who was abducted from Bangladesh and taken to Mumbai, where she was allegedly confined and tortured.
“We have seen a media report about the Bangladeshi minor girl, and our mission in Mumbai has taken (up) the issue with the proper authorities to know the status of the girl,” said an official of the foreign ministry in Dhaka.
However, the official said the Indian side was yet to provide any details about the case.
A report published in the Indian newspaper Daily News and Analysis (DNA) said Mumbai police rescued a 15-year old Bangladeshi girl on Saturday and arrested a 40-year-old local man for allegedly kidnapping and raping her.
The accused, Munir Ghazi, a resident of Shirvane village in Nerul, Mumbai, reportedly kept the girl at his residence and tortured her for 10 days. After her rescue, the girl was taken to a Mumbai police station, where she narrated her story to investigators.
Mumbai police suspect the involvement of a large prostitution racket in the case, and they are investigating the matter, the newspaper said.
