2,04,000 overseas jobs seekers registered

A total of 2,04,000 overseas jobs seekers have registered online in Dhaka and Barisal divisions, according to Institute of Information and Communication Technology of BUET.

Of the aspirant migrant workers, 1,74,116 registered in Dhaka while rest in Barisal division. With the technical assistance provided by IICT of BUET, the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) conducted the online registration across the country.

IICT Director Saiful Islam said the number of jobs seekers had increased for wider publicity. Registration in Dhaka and Barisal ended on September 30. Earlier, the concluding date was set on September 28.

The deadline for registration was extended by two days for each division as the server became slower in function because of the increased load, said officials at BMET.

Registration in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet would continue till October 6 that started on September 28. Registration in Khulna and Chittagong divisions would be held between October 4 and October 12, said the sources.

At a press conference held recently, Expat Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said: “The government has planned to create a comprehensive database of aspirant migrants to frame the migration process in a system and reduce the migration cost.”

Earlier, the government registered names of over 1.4m aspirant migrants for sending them to Malaysia to work in the plantation sector.
