The managing director of a real estate company and the chairman of a multi-level-marketing (MLM) company were arrested in the capital’s Badda and Kalabagan on Tuesday night in connection with embezzlement charges.
Police arrested Mahmuda Khadiza Akhter, the managing director of the real estate company Pink City, from her house at Kalabagan’s Lake Circus Road, informed Sub-Inspector Devraj Chakraborti of Kalabagan Police Station.
At least 14 separate cases have been filed against the Pink City MD by clients of the company, alleging her of embezzling money by selling flats, the SI said, adding “Although the clients paid the money, flats were not handed over to them.”
The SI said: “She was arrested following eight warrants from the courts”
“Although she obtained bails in six cases, separate courts issued warrants against her after she failed to appear before the courts in connection with those cases,” he added.
Meanwhile, Redwan-bin-Ishaq, the chairman of MLM company Aim Way, was arrested by Paltan police early Wednesday, in connection with 10 separate cases filed with the police station.
Police sources said, members of Badda police station had arrested Redwan earlier on Tuesday night from Badda’s Kuwait Mosque, after some people kept him confined there following a beating.
“A group of people beat Redwan for defaulting on their investments and kept him confined inside the mosque around 8:30pm,” said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Badda police station.
The OC said, after being informed, police rescued Redwan and brought him to Badda Police Station.
“Later he was handed over to a team of Paltan police station, where he is accused in many cases for embezzling people”, the OC added.
Golam Sarwar, the OC of Paltan police station, said Redwan was brought to the Station at around 2:30am, as several embezzlement cases were earlier filed against him with the station.
“Redwan embezzled millions of taka from people in the name of the MLM business. He took the money after promising them with supplying various products, mainly herbal items,” the OC said.
“He also identifies himself as a close relative of Charmonai Peer”, OC Golam Sarwar said and added, “Redwan would be produced before the court on Thursday.”
