Hefazat leader held in City

Plainclothes police arrested deputy chief of Hefazat-e-Islam’s Dhaka city unit from the city’s Malibagh area Monday.

The arrestee was identified as Mufti Wakkas, also secretary general of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Islam, an Islamic outfit.

Deputy Commissioner (public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said a team of DB police raided the area and arrested Mufti Wakkas near Abul Hotel around 3:30 pm, reports UNB.

He was wanted in a number of cases filed in connection with the Hefazat’s May-5 violence in the capital, said Masudur.
