The Inspector General of Police Friday termed "stray incidents" the recent killings of ruling Awami League's youth wing Jubo League leaders and claimed that law and order was quite normal.
IGP Hassan Mahmood Khandker said police would investigate the killing of Jubo League leader Zahid Siddiki Tarek, a key accused in the murder of another Jubo League leader Reazul Haque Milky, and alleged criminal Shah Alam to prove whether they were killed in a real "crossfire" or "gunfight."
Tarek, a joint secretary of Jubo League's Dhaka City (south) unit, and Shah Alam were killed on Wednesday while Milky, an organising secretary of the same unit, was killed by an armed gang in the early hours of July 30 in the capital's Gulshan.
The home ministry on Thursday approved a prayer of Rab to investigate the Milky killing case.
Family of Tarek claims that Rab stage managed a "crossfire drama" to legitimate the killing.
"As questions have been raised, the incident will be investigated to remove any confusion," the IGP said while addressing a function at the Rajarbagh Police Lines.
Usually executive investigation is conducted after all such incidents of crossfire or gunfight, he added.
Rab is part of the police department which operates under the jurisdiction of the home ministry.
Around four hours after the killing of Milky, Rab 1 members arrested Tarek and six others, Rab said Tarek had led the gun attack on Milky and he had been arrested at a clinic in Uttara undergoing treatment with a bullet fired by one of his associates.
Tarek and Shah Alam were shot dead at the capital's Khilkhet during a "gunfight" around 10pm on Wednesday when a Rab team was taking Tarek to Gulshan police station.
Asked if the investigation in the killing of Milky would be hampered after the death of Tarek, the IGP replied in the negative.
