3 Jamaat men held in Jhenaidah police killing case

Police arrested three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah on Monday for their alleged involvement in the killing of a police constable on March 3, this year.

Constable Omar Faruk of  Harinakundu police station was chopped and beaten to death by activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir during a hartal, Harinakundu police station Officer-in-Charge Mahibul Islam said.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the villages Gobindaput and Bherakhali on Monday morning and arrested Yusuf Ali, Tipu Sultan and another Jamaat activist.

The arrested were listed as accused, and had been hiding since the murder, police said.
