Eighty-three workers travelled to Malaysia Wednesday under a government-to-government arrangement, which will see them working for the country’s plantation sector.
A Malaysian Airlines flight (MH-103) carrying the workers departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:10pm, Md. Zahidul Islam, assistant director at Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) told the Dhaka Tribune Wednesday.
“Visas of 320 workers are now being processed and will be sent to Bangladesh by next week,” Mantu Kumar Biswas, labour counsellor to Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia, told the Dhaka Tribune over phone Wednesday.
On Tuesday, 90 workers travelled to Malaysia to work under the government arrangement, with a migration cost of around Tk30,000 per person.
Private recruiting agencies allegedly charged Tk2,00,000 to Tk3,00,000 to send a worker to Malaysia.
Earlier in April, 198 workers went to Malaysia under the same arrangement.
Meanwhile, a lottery has selected around 30,000 workers to be sent to Malaysia.
The government has also created a database of around 1.5 million workers from across the country.
