Cairo authorities sent two Bangladeshi to prison for 15 days for violating curfew on August 19.
"Our embassy is in touch with them and it is expected that they would be released after the term ends," an official of Bangladesh's foreign ministry told the Dhaka Tribune.
The duo, Al-Azhar University student Belayet Hossain and factory worker Nasir Mazumdar, undertook a 30-kilometre Tablig (preaching) mission to Helwan area in Cairo during curfew hours.
Cairo's Tablig Centre has appointed a lawyer for them, the official said.
The frustrated official said Al-Azhar University repeatedly instructed its foreign students not to go outside during the curfew hours but Belayet Hossain disobeyed the warning.
“He not only got himself into trouble but also his family and the Bangladesh embassy in Cairo."
To make things worse, on the same day nationals of nine other countries were detained for violating the curfew including muslims of Russian, Irish and Dutch origin, the official said.
“We learned the Egyptian government has already taken legal actions against them as they were supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood."
The official expressed fear that it might become difficult to get the duo released after the prison term if the authorities of Cairo take similar actions against them.
