The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday set July 14 for the hearing on charge framing against war crimes suspect and alleged founder of the Razakar force AKM Yusuf.
ICT 2 of Justices Obaidul Hasan and Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Judge M Shahinur Islam declared the date, following a plea from defence lawyer M Tajul Islam.
Tajul made the plea seeking time for preparation. Prosecutor Hrishikesh Saha was present at the tribunal.
On July 1, the case was transferred from the tribunal 1 for quick disposal.
The prosecution submitted formal charges against Yusuf, a senior nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, on May 8. The prosecution brought 15 charges against the 84-year-old including genocide, murder, looting and arson.
Yusuf has been charged with killing eight people and mass killing 700 others, looting 300 houses and 400 shops, and forcing 200 Hindus to convert to Islam.
Investigators say the accused established the Razakar force on May 5, 1971 that collaborated with the Pakistani occupation army in the Liberation War of 1971.
He also formed Peace Committees in every sub-division, police station and union in Khulna, investigators say.
The war crimes accused was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital on May 12. Yusuf is from Rajair Kaliarpar under Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat.
