15 RMG workers hurt in city, 107 sacked in Ashulia

At least 15 garment workers were injured as police exploded six sound grenades to disperse them in the capital’s Shewrapara area on Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said hundreds of RMG workers took to the street, blocked roads and vandalised a number of garment factory buildings in the morning demanding a wage hike.

On information police rushed in and hurled six sound grenades to disperse the agitated workers, reports banglanews.

The agitated workers alleged that the owner of their factory earlier promised to increase their salary soon, but they did not take any fruitful measures in this regard.

Mirpur zone additional deputy commissioner of police (Pallabi) Iftekharuzzaman told banglanews, “Police managed to bring the situation under control.”

“Sound grenades are not harmful at all. We exploded those in order to remove people from the street,” he added.

On the other hand, the authorities of IDS Fashion garment in Ashulia has terminated 107 workers for their alleged involvement in vandalism, looting and assaulting police.

Garment authority said the workers were terminated for their involvement in vandalism, looting and assaulting during protest demanding pay increase.

Cantering the issue, hundreds of workers went berserk and blockaded Baipail-Abdullahpur road and hurled brick chips aiming police.

Police charged baton and fired rubber bullets to disperse them.

Additional law enforcers have been deployed in Ashulia to avert any untoward situation.
