A Dhaka court on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against four media persons, including the editors of online newspaper dhakatimes24.com and Bangla daily Manabkantha for allegedly publishing a “baseless” report.
Of the media persons, three are dhakatimes24.com editor Arifur Rahman Dolon, Manabkantha editor Shahjahan Sardar and Manabkantha publisher Zakaria Choudhury.
Metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor on Wednesday issued the arrest warrant in response to a defamation charge filed against the publisher and journalists.
Earlier in the day, Abdul Latif Siddique, the textiles and jute minister, filed the defamation suit against four people for allegedly publishing the “baseless” report on the minister.
The case statement stated dhakatimes published a report that was insulting on Abdul Latif Siddique on May 17. Later, Manabkantha published the same story on May 19.
While giving his statement, Latif said: “The report was baseless and fabricated.”
