The 34th prosecution witness, Bijoy Krishna Chowdhury, gave his deposition against BNP leader and war crime suspect Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT 1) on Monday morning.
However, the defence counsel declined to cross-examine him as he did not mention Salahuddin’s name anywhere in his disposition.
On December 16, 2010, law enforcers arrested Salahuddin in another case and on December 19 he was accused of war crimes during 1971. He was produced before the tribunal on December 30, 2010.
The prosecution pressed 24 specific charges against Salahuddin on November 14, 2011.
On November 17 in the same year, the tribunal, set up to try crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, took 23 charges into cognisance.
The three-member ICT 1 so far have taken deposition of 33 witnesses against SQ Chowdhury. The detained BNP leader has allegedly killed hundreds of minority community people in Chittagong during the Liberation War in 1971.
