Law Minister Anisul Haque has said that the time has come to find the conspirators behind the killing of Bangabandhu and his family, and to bring them to justice.
“We now have the opportunity to identify and punish all those who conspired to kill Bangabandhu. Therefore, forming a high-level commission in this regard is a very important task. We should not let go of such an opportunity,” he said during a discussion on Bangabandhu killing, organized by Sampritir Bangladesh at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
Terming the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of an international conspiracy, the minister further said: “I think this commission should only be tasked with identifying all those who were involved in the conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu. I advise that the commission should not be tasked with any other case.”
“The young generation wants to know why Bangabandhu was killed, why the country had to wait 21 years to get justice, and why the people who were behind the assassination have not been put to trial,” he added.
Saying that all preparations had been taken to protect Bangabandhu’s killers from being brought to justice after his assassination, the minister also mentioned: “Ziaur Rahman formed his cabinet with those who served in vital capacities for the Pakistan government, and were also behind the killing of Bangabandhu.”
Earlier on August 20, the minister announced that the government has agreed in principle to form a commission to identify the perpetrators behind the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
