UN human rights envoy Yanghee Lee visited refugee camps in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar, where Rohingya refugees have taken shelter after fleeing a military crackdown in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
She was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cox’s Bazar district administration and the International Organization for Migration.
The UN envoy is on a four-day visit to Bangladesh. Earlier, she visited Myanmar and sat down with the government to discuss the situation in the Rakhine state.
Though the Myanmar government has called off operations, many Rohingyas continue fleeing to Bangladesh fearing further attacks by the military.
