TIB urges authorities to review Government Employees Act 2017

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged the authorities concerned to review some provisions of the drafted Government Employees Act 2017, to ensure a depoliticized and undisturbed working environment in government offices. Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of TIB, made the remark through a press statement on Wednesday. He said: “The draft of the Government Employees Act 2017 is a long-awaited and a well-timed initiative, but it is necessary to review some of the provisions of the act to ensure professionalism, honesty and transparency among the employees.” In the statement, he described the provision which allows the government to dismiss any employee without any explanation if he has worked for more than 25 years as "dangerous." He added that Section 46 and 47(3) should also be reviewed.
