The Bangladesh Bar Council says it has found out that a lawyer who frequents the TV talk show circuit identifying himself as a barrister and Supreme Court practitioner has never passed the bar.
The council on Monday announced that Parvez Ahmed, a member of Dhaka Lawyers Association, would be permanently banned from the legal profession for allegedly parading as a barrister even though he is not a Supreme Court lawyer and has not passed the bar-at-law exams.
A press release from the council said the Bar Council Tribunal 1 had examined a complaint raised by a Supreme Court lawyer, looked at documentary evidence and found that Parvez was falsifying information.
“He has gone on national TV with this false identity, deceiving the public. By attending talk shows under a false identity, Parvez Ahmed has carried out a professional misconduct and sullied the good name of the legal community,” the release said.
The complainant Barrister M Sarwar Hossain told the Bangla Tribune Parvez had even printed visiting cards using these false titles.
“We had called him to ask him not to do this, but he did not pay heed,” he said.
Parvez Ahmed could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
