Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq on Wednesday said Chief Justice SK Sinha did not resign. “I wish him quick recovery and his return to duty in full health,” the Minister said while talking to journalists at his office at the ministry.
“Doctors are visiting him at his residence regularly. I will visit him when the doctors allow visitors. It is really unfortunate how people are commenting on his physical condition, which is a personal matter. He mentioned his cancer and other health issues in his letter,” he further added.
In response to questions from journalists on why the chief justice did not go to a hospital, Huq said, “I do not know why he did not go to a hospital.”

Chief Justice SK Sinha sent a letter to President Abdul Hamid seeking a month-long leave, on October 2. The chief justice had asked for the leave on medical grounds.
"The seat of the chief justice cannot be vacant even for a single day. Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior-most Appellate Division judge after Sinha, will discharge the duties of the chief justice. Let us all pray for his quickest recovery,” he further added. He also urged BNP leaders to pray for Chief Justice SK Sinha.
The minister said, “The action has been taken in accordance with Article 97 of the constitution. Bangladeshi people believe that the constitution is the highest law of the country.” “The chief justice can go on a leave whenever he wants. However, he actually formally sought a leave from the President. I appreciate this gesture. If he had simply stopped coming you would have criticised him in other ways as well,” said Anisul Huq.
