Khaleda skips graft cases hearing

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has once again skipped a deposition hearing in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases on grounds of physical illness.

Her lawyer Sanaullah Mia filed a time petition with the Dhaka Special Judge Court 3 of Abu Ahmed Jamadar on Thursday morning.

The former premier has skipped more than 50 such hearing sessions in the past and her counsel have always shown different excuses for her absence.

Lawyers later quizzed Harun-or-Rashid, the investigating officer of the cases.

In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against six people, including Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk2.1 crore from the funds of the Zia Orphanage Trust.

In 2011, the ACC accused the BNP chief and three others of misappropriating Tk3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust fund.
