The Chittagong district police authorities has suspended two policemen as an arrested person who was in under treatment in Chittagong Medical College Hospital fled away from their custody on Friday noon.
The Chittagong’s Superintendent of Police AKM Hafiz Akhter passed an order suspending the district Police Line’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Foyzur Rahman and Constable Faysal Ahmed, police said.
Confirming the matter, the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Naimul Hasan said the two were also closed at the police line according to the order of the SP.
Earlier, an alleged mugger Syed Alam, 35, was fled from the CMCH’s Ward Number 28 at around 2pm on Friday fooling along the on-duty policemen.
Local people nabbed Syed Alam, leader of an inter-district mugger racket, along with his wife Rokhsana Begum, 26, and his cohort Abdul Gafur, 30, in the district’s Fatikchhari upazila on Thursday when they attempted to commit crime boarding into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in guise of commuters.
The agitated mob beat them indiscriminately while they were handed over to Fatikchhari police station in critically injured condition.
Out of the three, Alam, of Boalkhali upazila in the district, was rushed to CMCH in serious condition while his physical condition was quite better when he was fleeing away, said CMCH police sources.
