A Sylhet court has granted a seven-day remand to Rajon murder case accused Moyna Mia.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sayedul Alam passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.
Moyna Mia, a security guard by profession, was arrested in the Tukerbazar area of the Sylhet city around 10pm Tuesday.
According to local sources, he was in hiding at a relative’s house in Pirpur, a neighbouring village to his home in Kumargaon. After yesterday’s Taraweeh prayers, some villagers got hold of him and handed him over to police.
At that time, an angry mob reportedly tried to beat up Moyna, but police stopped them and took him to the Jalalabad police station. When this report was being filed around 11pm yesterday, a big crowd had gathered in front of the police station.
The ill-fated teenager was tortured to death by a group of persons at Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet city around 7:30am on July 8.
A murder case was filed in this regard by Jalalabad police, in which Rajon’s father later became a plaintiff. Muhit was listed as the prime accused in the case, while his brother Kamrul Islam, 24, their accomplice Ali Haider, 34, and guard Moyna Miah, 45, were charged with murder as well.
Five of the accused have so far been arrested in connection with the barbaric incident.
Prime accused Muhit was held while dumping Rajon's body on the day of the murder. Later Muhit's cousin Ismail Hossain Ablus was detained in Sylhet and absconding accused Kamrul Islam was held in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on July 13. Moyna Mia was arrested on Tuesday night and Dulal on Wednesday.
A Sylhet court placed Muhit on a five-day remand on Monday in the case filed over Rajon's murder.
A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the brutal killing of the 13-year-old boy.
A 28-minute video, recorded on a mobile phone camera, shows the victim tied to a pole in front of a workshop in the still-closed Sultan Ali Market, beside the Dhaka-Sunamganj road. From the video, it seemed there were five to six men who took part in the barbaric torture.
Informed about the suspect, police went to the spot and took Muhit into custody and recovered Rajan’s body from a microbus. The body was identified by Rajan’s family at the police station on the night of July 8.
