Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday reiterated his stance on doctor’s stay at village, saying they must remain there to serve the rural people.
“Doctors have to stay in their working place in rural areas for a particular period to provide healthcare facilities to the common people,” he told a seminar on ‘Breast and Uterus Cancer’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) here.
DRU in association with Centre for Cancer Prevention and Research organized the seminar with its president Shahed Chowdhury in the chair.
Head of Cancer Epidemiology Department of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital Dr Habibullah Talukder, director of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa and DRU leaders, among others, addressed the seminar. DRU organizing secretary Mursalin Nomani conducted the seminar.
Referring to responsibilities of state to provide health services to the people, Nasim said adding the government is mulling to introduce health insurance for poor people.
Both developed and developing countries are seriously considering to provide better health services to the people, he added.
Blasting violent and dirty politics of BNP and its main ally Jamaat, Nasim said they (BNP) had killed innocent people by arson attack in the name of movement. He questioned how much BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia gained from the destructive politics.
Now the party is resorting to falsehood to launch dirty politics on different important issues of state aiming to divide the nation, Nasim added. Dr Sheikh Golam said generally two types
of tumor -- benign and malignant -- are found. Only malignant tumor is called as breast cancer, he added.
