Over 13 lakh children were administered Vitamin “A” plus capsules in the port city and district yesterday on the occasion of National Vitamin “A” plus campaign 2014.
One vitamin “A” plus capsule and de worm tablets were administered to a number of children aged up to five years in the city and district.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) administered vitamin “A” capsules to over six lakh children and fed one worming tablet to the children age zero to 5 years by engaging 4848 health workers and volunteers through 1212 vaccination centres at its all 41 wards.
CCC mayor M Manzur Alam inaugurated the day’s programme by administering oral Vitamin “A” plus capsule to the children at a function at Saleh Jahour Kinder Garden School auditorium this morning.
Besides, a total of 4815 temporary vaccination centres were set up by Chittagong Civil Surgeon office and in all 14 upazilas in the district.
A total of 25000 volunteers and health workers were engaged by civil surgeon office for giving vitamin “A” Plus capsule to over seven lakh children aged from zero to 5 years while an additional de worming tablet to each of the children aged from 2 to 5 years.
CCC sources said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in port city and 580 members in the district were engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places makeshift living.
Over 700 supervisors including Commissioners of 41 wards in Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and 2009 supervisors in the 14 upazilas of the district has supervised the ‘A’ Plus campaign at their respective jurisdictions in the port city and district.
Besides, 1200 volunteers and health workers in CCC area and 4850 in the 14 upazilas in the district will carry out the drive in next four days from April 6 as a follow up programme through visiting doorsteps of the households to cover up dropped out children, CCC and civil surgeon office sources said.
