Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,162 as seven die in 24 hours

Seven more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Sunday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,162.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all seven of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,058, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 104, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the seven new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in the Sylhet division with three deaths, while Sunamganj district recorded the highest district-level death count with two casualties.

A total of 1,180 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 205,028.

During the same period, 93 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 22,421.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 182,047 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 174,469 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
