Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,125 as three die in 24 hours

Three more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Sunday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,125.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all three of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,023, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 102, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the three new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with two deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 1,218 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 196,418.

During the same period, 82 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 21,748.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 174,149 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 166,908 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
