Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,114 as four die in 24 hours

Four more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Friday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,114.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified three of the latest casualties as suspected and one as a confirmed measles death.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,012, while the number of confirmed deaths rose to 102, as one new confirmed measles death was reported in the last 24 hours.

The three new suspected fatalities were all recorded in the Dhaka division, specifically within the Dhaka district.

A total of 1,221 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Friday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 194,084.

During the same period, 21 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 21,623.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 172,021 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 166,933 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS 2 oct.png report.
