US provides 500,000 dengue test kits

The United States has provided 500,000 dengue test kits to Bangladesh to support efforts to combat the disease.

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said the NS1 rapid diagnostic kits would be distributed in phases to upazila and district hospitals across the country.

He made the remarks on Thursday morning at a ceremony at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital, where the US-supplied kits were formally handed over.

Trishita Maula, chargée d’affaires at the US Embassy, handed over the kits.

The health minister said the country has an adequate stock of dengue test kits and that the government is prepared to tackle the dengue situation.

During the visit, he inspected the emergency department, dengue ward and diagnostic laboratory of Kurmitola General Hospital.
